Challenge / Response

How SpamAV™ Optional "Challenge / Response" Works

When Sally, a SpamAV customer, imports her address book from her existing email account into SpamAV, all of the people on her email lists are marked as "whitelisted" and approved to send email to her inbox.

Richard, a sender who is not in Sally's address book, sends his first email to Sally.

Richard is not a recognized sender so a Challenge message is generated. Ryan's email is temporarily held in Deb's Pending folder.

Richard responds to the email by typing the seven digit code he sees on the screen.

Richard's email is now automatically delivered to Sally's inbox and his address has been added to Sally's address book. All future emails from Richard will be sent straight to Sally's Inbox.

Why the Spam is blocked ?

Spammers send thousands of computer-generated emails at once. It is not feasible for spammers to respond to SpamAV Challenge messages. Therefore spam stays in your Pending folder until automatically deleted.

Does Richard need to fill out a Challenge each and every time?

With our new SpamAV spam-blocking solution, Richard has only to answer one Challenge message the first time he sends email to any SpamAV customer.

Here's a sample of the "Challenge Message" that Richard get's:

"Want to be a pre-approved sender? Send an email to sally@activeinternet.com and answer the Challenge message. The next time you send an email to Sally your email will go straight to her Inbox."

What is a whitelist and a blacklist?

"Whitelist" refers to all of the email addresses that are approved to send email to you.

"Blacklist" is a list of people from whom you do not want to receive any email.
